Welcome from Jim and Muriel Erickson!
We have owned our apple orchard and strawberry farm since 1954. Together we have kept the farm growing - planting and selling apples & strawberries for pick-your-own and ready-picked.
Over the past 54 years we have raised a family of five daughters and one son here. Jim has also fished commercially, and Muriel was employed as a home economics teacher at the Bayfield High School.
Initially Jim would haul apples to Minnesota and North Dakota each fall to market. But now most of our apples and strawberries are sold locally to customers who flock here in the summer and the fall. Many make a day of it . . . picking and picnicking.
Jim was one of the chief instigators of the Bayfield Apple Festival, held during the first weekend of October. Over 30 years ago he stopped at a Duluth truck stop with a flat tire, and inadvertently found out that people there did not know that apples were grown in Bayfield. Upon his return, he got together with a few other members of the Chamber of Commerce and behold - the Apple Festival was born! Today thousands of people come from far and wide to eat apples and a host of other apple treats. The Apple Festival is renowned for its expansive vendor selection and the Sunday parade.
In 1990, Muriel retired after 29 years of teaching and began a new venture - Erickson's Country Store. The store features a bakery, the jam making kitchen, and a wide variety of gift items. Here in a "country store" atmosphere you will find all kinds of homemade treats, gifts, accessories, gourmet food items and more.
